I drove back home from Chicago on Sunday night to visit my mom in the hospital and help my dad out with stuff around the house.
Right now she is being kept in an isolation room and all visitors are required to wear a mask when sitting in with her. We're pretty sure it's just a bad case of viral pneumonia but the doctors haven't been able to rule out other conditions, especially since she worked at a hospital in Africa earlier this year. Yesterday she met with a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases but the blood work could take up to 5 days to come back. So at this point it's mostly just a waiting game. The good news is that the doctor doesn't think it's TB, and her HIV test came back negative.
Yesterday was my first time seeing her since she went into the hospital, and it seemed like a really good day for her. I guess this morning she had another bad coughing attack and is back on some strong medicine for the pain. However, she sent me a text requesting a bag of mini Snickers, so she's feeling well enough for candy :). I don't think she'd like it if I reminded her that sugar actually feeds illness... hahaha.
Also last night, my dad bought her an iPad2 (soooo jealous)!!! She was ecstatic. When I head up to the hospital in a bit I'm going to help her set it up. Now she should have an easier time keeping in touch with everyone.
I'll also keep posting updates here because I know a lot of people are concerned, and it's easier for me to get out information than it is for my mom at this point.
