Life has been keeping me on my toes, so I sort of apologize for having not written in over 20 days, but I'm not really all that sorry.
I can't remember what I did to deserve it, but I had the worst luck this past week. I got scared to death and embarrassed in front of my entire class last Tuesday, only to find out that my teacher was just practicing some tough love to put my knowledge of cinema to the test. Ouch. But I think I passed the test.
Then on Wednesday I made the stupidest mistake ever that ended up ruining someone's film. The good news is; I now know exactly how to use an old school light meter. But for a little while there, I felt like a failure as a film student. Also... that morning I received a phone call from Emma saying that she missed her Megabus, which meant that 1) she was no longer coming to visit, and 2) that meant I had 24 hours to find an actor for my first short film. I had a mini panic attack.
Thursday... I was fortunate enough to find willing participants for my shoot, but the weather was against me. We were out in Grant Park filming during a thunderstorm and torrential rain, but I was still determined to get my film done. Unfortunately my teacher came out to pull the plug on my project. I am rescheduled to shoot next Wednesday.
Also on Thursday, Hilary and I went to see a very interesting show called And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers. We had the worst time trying to find the building, and once we got inside, we were the only ones around and had to take a 1900's style elevator (think Titanic) up to the fourth floor and down a long, empty corridor. It was surreal and bizarre... appropriate for the show were were seeing. The production was amazing. I was really impressed.
Next week will be better.
