Well, it is Day 6 for me here in France, and Day 3 of the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival. I am virtually a nobody, but it makes me feel special when I get to wave my blue badge at security and leave the general public in the dust.
My job assignment is with the videography/photography team at the American Pavilion. We mostly cover panel discussions in the conference center but I will be photographing a private party for the movie Mad Cow. It looks like it's a very low budget, campy horror flick but I totally love stuff like that. I don't know if I'll get to see it before the party but it's basically about a half man/ half cow serial killer. The actress looks like a poor man's Megan Fox. I mean that in the nicest way possible. It's way better than using the real Megan Fox. Not a fan.
Anyway, that's not happening until Monday.
Arriving in Cannes was a trip. The volcano erupted again the day that I left. Fortunately I made it all the way to Nice with limited complications. A lot of people from our group were stranded in the UK for a day or two.
Most of the time I don't have to struggle with speaking French because I have a few friends here who are fluent. I just stick with them.
Ridley Scott's new movie Robin Hood premiered on Wednesday. I wasn't able to attend the first premier at 7, but I did get to walk the red carpet for the 11:30 screening.
Last night we tried getting into one of the beach parties but ended up crashing some crazy VIP club at one of the casinos... and a bottle of champagne was 25,000 euro.
Seriously.
So today I got some great advice about independent filmmaking from Lynn Howell (producer of Half Nelson), and we covered a panel in the conference room. The premier for Wall Street is happening right now but I won't make it to the red carpet due to work. It would be hard to get in to this premier anyway. It's too bad, a couple of friends went to the press screening this morning and they said it was really good.
I'm having fun and the whole hollywood feel is exciting, but truthfully, I'm working most of the time. It's way less glamorous than it sounds... but I had to share the fun stuff!
