My new hobbies include lounging around in my underwear, taking incredbly long walks, and keeping notes on my cell phone. Not necessarily at the same time.
I am ultra sad that I won't be going to Howell's annual Balloonfest this weekend. It's overrun with melodramatic, horny teenagers and creepy (sometimes strangely attractive) carnies... but it's tradition dag nabbit! I am a sucker for dangerously rusty carnival rides and fried food... and the smell of secondhand smoke in the air. Ah, it gets me all nostalgic just thinking about it.
But missing my favorite small-town fair has incited me to attend another redneck gathering.. the Fowlerville Fair! It's the neighboring po-dunk town's showcase of farm animals and farm related thingys. And even more dangerous carnival rides! But what makes the Fowlerville Fair awesome is that they have concerts and... a freaking DEMOLITION DERBY!!! I haven't seen the derby in years but I can still remember the first time my dad took me to see it. My parents used to drive cars in demolition derbies...back before I was born. But still, having discovered the wonderment of it all, and now firmly believing it's in my blood.. I have made it one of my life goals to drive in a demolition derby some day! It's like grown up bumper cars! That's about as redneck as I get...but that's still pretty bad. Hot dogs, beer, and cars smashing into each other. It's the best!
